I am very fond of fruit crumble because this is the type of recipe that you can make entirely from natural wholesome ingredients and without any added sugar. This particular crumble recipe is very tasty with the advantage of using two common fruit which complement each other.
This is a gluten-free recipe nice enough to serve to guests or to treat your little ones in a healthy way.
Ingredients for the crumble
60g pumpkin seeds
60g walnuts or pecans
60g almonds
60g pitted dates
Put all the ingredients in a food processor and process until crumbly. Alternatively, grind each of the ingredients separately using a coffee-grinder and mix them together in a bowl. Add 4 tbsp of butter and mix it all with the hands until a loose crumble consistency forms.
Ingredients for the fruit base
6 ripe plums
2 apples
5 tbsp currants
1 pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1 tsp of ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp mixed spices
1 tsp natural vanilla essence (optional)
De-seed the plums and apples and cut into small (1/2 inch) squares. I kept the skins on the apples because I cut them small but if you prefer chunkier pieces, you might want to remove the skins (but some nutrition too). Mix all the other ingredients and place into an oven proof glass dish.
Cover the fruit mixture with the loose crumble and bake it in a pre-heated oven (180 C) for 30 – 40 minutes. As oven temperatures can vary, keep an eye to make sure the crust doesn’t burn. Remove earlier if it starts to turn golden brown.
Bom apetite!
